I was born and raised on Martha's Vineyard where my passion for dance ignited. I am currently enrolled in an intensive Masters Program at the University of Massachusetts where I teach high school history as well as take a full course load of graduate classes, which has left less time for dancing and more time for writing about dancing, education, and history.
A Brief History of the Website
My idea for this website came from an undergraduate class I took at the University of Massachusetts Amherst called Artivism, which essentially delved into Art in Activism. For my final assignment I wrote a paper relating the modern dance movement's ties to the communist movement, focusing on the involvement of some of the pioneers of the style in communist movements (see the Martha Graham Link on the Modern Dance Page.) I am now in the final stretch of my graduate program, and began using this idea once again as a launching point for an after school program for the high school students I teach. Not only has this website been helping them (and me!) develop twenty-first century skills, but also has been beneficial in improving their below average writing skills while interesting them in history and social studies (what we teachers like to call the "hidden curriculum") and above all, having fun! This is a work in progress of course, so please be patient with us :)
